Call for Volunteers

R.U.B.A.R.B. recently went to a Zephyrs game on Fireworks Friday and it was amazing! The next day we went to Forestival at the Studio in the Wood. We danced, drummed, built a clay forest and rode the ferry on the way back to the shop. A great weekend for field trips. Check out our photos section!

In other news,  soon it will be summer. Here at the shop, that means our schedules are changing and travel plans are shaping up.

In order to keep the bike shop going, we are going to need an influx of committed volunteers. We always appreciate any help we can get, whether it be for an hour or for a day. But sometimes we as volunteers need some more solid help that we can count on week in and week out. Anyone and everyone is welcome to stop by and ask us about becoming a volunteer. You don't need to be an expert mechanic or have a ton of experience with kids. You just need to love R.U.B.A.R.B. and want the shop to be able to keep its doors open three days a week. Right now, we are operating with a skeleton crew of very committed, but overworked volunteers. If we had more volunteer staff, we could lighten the load on everyone's shoulders.

Please pass this message along to anyone you think would want to join R.U.B.A.R.B.

RUBARB made the newspaper! Check out this link to find our article in the Times-Pic:

*Please check this website periodically to find out what's going on *

TorryVolunteers began RUBARB in March 2006, after constantly collecting unused flood bikes, pulling them from garbage piles in the streets, and fixing them up for both residents and volunteers. Bikes that would have otherwise been sitting in an overflowing dump of Post Katrina rubbish, are now being reused by many people in New Orleans. RUBARB has evolved into a full scale upper 9th ward community bike shop. A shop which began with programs such as bike lending, and bike building workshops has now become RUBARB.

RUBARB today offers:
  • Build a Bike options
  • Earn a bike program for youth
  • Open workshop hours
  • Maintenance assistance
  • Creative Art with bike themes
  • Work Trade opportunities
  • Monthly field trips for youth

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
